Abstract

According to the Law of Georgia on Higher Education, after graduating from the university, the student should be able to establish a worthy place in society and develop his abilities with the acquired knowledge and skills. This means obtaining such systematic knowledge, which is characterized by the ability of constant growth and renewal.
The article aims to study project-based teaching, as an effective approach to student-centred teaching and its role in achieving the goals of higher education, to reveal the extent to which lecturers in higher education institutions use modern teaching methods, their effectiveness, challenges and ways to solve them.
The following research methods are used in this article: a question-and-answer survey conducted in higher education institutions and quantitative and qualitative research methods.
The research results showed that the mentioned educational goal is still unachievable for higher education institutions. Observation of the educational process made it clear that the lecturers are either completely unable or partially able to use modern teaching methods. At the same time, they fail to ensure the promotion of a student-centred learning process. There can be several reasons for this problem, but one of them is the selection and use of wrong teaching methods.
